This month we’ll start working on standing on one leg. This is such an important skill for all dancers! At first, we may only be able to stay on one foot for a few seconds, but over the year we’ll work toward being able to stay still on one leg for 15 seconds – maybe even more!
We’ll also start learning leaps. When we leap, it’s important that we jump from one foot to the other foot. Sometimes it’s hard not to use both feet together, but we’ll get there with practice.
What to Work on At Home This Month:
This month, we would love for you to work on “tendu” (tawn-doo). Our tendus start with our feet together and our legs straight, then we extend on leg in front of us on the floor, pointing our toes and keeping our leg straight the entire time. We finish the tendu by returning to our starting position. The tricky part is keeping our knees straight the WHOLE time.
Tendus can be done to the front, the side and the back. Right now our class is working on tendus to the front from Parallel Position. Later in the year, we’ll also do tendus side from First Position.
