What an amazing weekend at StepUp competition! Our dancers represented DC with pride and the judges piled on the awards! The awards weren’t the best part though. The best part was watching 15 dancers jump up after each dance finished to go hug and congratulate their friends. That’s the kind of thing that just fills your heart to the brim.
Our day started out with solos. We had a few nerves but performed well. Bella did her first solo EVER and was crowed Sr Beginning 2 Overall Soloists and well as received the “Spark” Judges Choice Award. Also receiving overall awards: Presley and Abby’s duet won Overall Intermediate Duet and Kamryn won second overall Sr Intermediate Solo. Abby and June took 1st and 2nd overall Beginning 2 soloists. Vera won 1st overall Jr Beginning Soloist and Everly won 1st over all Mini Beginning Soloist! Our most decorated soloist of the day was Ila, winning 1st overall Jr Intermediate Soloist. There were too many judges choice awards to go through them all, so we’ll just leave them here:

After a quick lunch we moved onto groups – and boy did they move! Because of COVID, all of our Dance Concepts numbers performed back to back within the space of an hour. Our dancers were racing to change and be ready to go back on stage.
During “Playground” we had a music malfunction near the end and ended up doing the dance all over again. The girls were still breathing hard from the first time when they took the stage again but went on to win High Gold, a Showmanship award and First Overall Jr Beginning routine!
After we finished group dances, it was off to eat enjoy being together. Final awards were done virtually. We didn’t really expect to win, but were very pleasantly surprised with the whole pizza place erupting in applause and celebration!
