It’s a strange week at Dance Concepts. On one hand, we’re celebrating a new season, excited to see old friends and meet new ones. On the other hand, we’re in mourning. As many of you know, our friend and dancer Olivia Rodgerson was in a severe car accident early on June 15th, the morning after our last recital. My mom put my in dance for the first time when I was 3 (mostly because Nana volunteered to pay for it.) I was socially not ready to be away from her and a cried and cried until the teacher told my mom, “Please don’t bring her back anymore.” It’s not uncommon for kids to take a few weeks to warm up for class, but I wasn’t making any progress at all. Mom tried again when I was 4, and had about the same results. It wasn’t until I was 5 that I was ready to be in a classroom without Mom by my side. (more…)
Our Spring Recital is right around the corner, and we couldn’t be more excited to see all our dancers perform! Recital is Thursday, June 14th. We have 2 shows, one at 6:00 pm and the other at 8:00 pm. Below is the show order for both shows. Recital will be held at Murray High School (5440 State Street). Tickets are on sale now! Tickets are $5.00 in advance, or $7.00 at the door.

This weekend we attended Healing Through Movement. It’s a non-profit dance competition that raises money for charity. At the end of the night on Saturday we got to hear from girl who has muscular dystrophy and due to a newly developed drug, can now raise her arm above her head. What a humbling thing after watching our dancers move freely all weekend long. We are proud to have gotten to participate over the weekend and be a part of such a great cause.
