Summer Intensive Auditions Coming to Utah

The new year is a great time for Dance Concepts dancers to put themselves out there in the ballet world – by going to auditions! Summer intensive audition season runs January-March, and it gives everyone an opportunity to take great classes from master teachers, as well as the fantastic learning experience dancers get from auditioning. Standard Body Positions

Constanza Murphy made this study sheet for Ballet 3, but it’s good for all of us to know our body positions.  Knowing your body positions by name makes it easier to learn combinations and choreography in class and will also make it easier to reverse combinations.  Test yourself to see how many you already know. Know Your Positions

Before we even start moving, dancers need to know the 6 basic foot positions.  Five of the six are based in ballet, but it’s good for all dancers to know them as part of the common language of dance.

Parallel and First Ballet Positions

Dancers in First Steps (3 year olds) should know the difference between parallel and 1st position.  It’s important that the entire leg rotates from the hip joint in order to turn the feet out.  It’s fine for young dancers to use a small degree of turnout.  As they progress, we’ll work to increase their range.
