Utah Dance Fest Schedule

IMG_1795Here is the preliminary schedule for Utah Dance Fest! Instead of giving us an exact time for our dances this competition gives us a 30 minute block in which we will perform.  You need to be there and ready to go 90 minutes before your 30 minute block begins.  This competition is especially strict about anyone performing out of order so we have to be ready to go!  If you know you are a family that typically runs late plan on showing up 2 hours before hand.  Even though your dancer may be able to get ready in less time without stressing about it, it isn’t fair to the rest of the team to wait on you to do warm up and run the dance.  (more…)

Friday was solo night for our dancers ages 9 and up.  Saige, Oliva R, Melina, Tessa, Savannah and Kirsten all competed solos for the first time and did a great job.  We were thrilled to sweep the overall awards in the Senior Competitive category with all four overall awards going to Dance Concepts dancers!  Jenna Johnson was awarded overall queen in the category with Jenaca Whittenburg receiving 1st attendant, Mercedes Paige receiving 2nd attendant, and Kirsten Mostert receiving 3rd attendant.  Mikel Young was also honored with an overall award (1st attendant) in the Senior Elite category.   (more…)

Master Class with Tadd Gadduang

Tadd GadduangThis weekend the Dance Concepts competition team has the opportunity to take a master class with Tadd Gadduang.  Many of you may remember Tadd from season 8 of So You Think You Can Dance.  Tadd was also very briefly a teacher at Dance Concepts before he left to dance with Odyssey Dance Company. Tadd is a great guy and a fantastic teacher.  We are so excited for our dancers to get to work with him.  (more…)

Competition Team Dress Rehearsal

As we get ready to head down to St. George it’s time to put the finishing touches on things and meet together as a team to be sure we’re all on the same page. Jazz Dance in Sandy UtahDress rehearsal is held at Dance Concepts and is mandatory.  All dancers should be in full costume with hair and makeup done.  This not only lets you practice doing your hair and makeup before the big day, but it helps us make sure everyone has the right look and there is no miscommunication.  Please be prepared with whatever undergarments you are going to wear at competition.  Most costumes should not have anything worn underneath them, but if your choreographer wants you to wear an extra bra or leotard underneath your costume you need to have the correct one with you that day. If there is time at the end of each rehearsal we will let solos/duets/trio rehearse or do a own dress rehearsal.  If you don't choose to do dress rehearsal at that time please make sure that you do your solo for your choreographer in full costume (with no extra undergarments) and hair so they can spot any potential problems.  (more…)
